BY NANCY DAHLBERG

NDAHLBERG@MIAMIHERALD.COM
David Blyer of DonorCommunity has been reaching out to potential clients, developing more services and growing partnerships. On all three counts, it has been a successful year.

DonorCommunity won first place in the Business Plan Challenge Community Track for its innovative plan to offer small and midsize nonprofits a full host of services — such as donor tracking, online auctions and e-stores, event management, social networking and free Web hosting — on a cloud computing platform at a yearly subscription fee of $7,200. At the time it won the Challenge in May, DonorCommunity had just secured its 22nd client. It now serves twice as many — some quite large like Make-a-Wish Foundation. DonorCommunity has 32 employees in nine states, most of them in South Florida.

Views on a Nonprofit Website Development Service

January 2012, Successful Fundrasing, a Stevenson, Inc. publicaiton, published an article "Views on a Nonprofit Website Development Service". Three DonorCommunity's clients expressed their perspectives on the software and its benefits.

"DonorCommunity is providing us with a wealth of new capabilities for managing our website, communicating with donors, rasing funds and educating the community. All of the other applications we considered were too complex, costly or limited for our needs, whereas DonorCommunity is comprehensive, economical and easy to use. We're very pleased to have found DonorCommunity." Said Debbie Zelman, President and Founder of Can't Stomach Cancer.

"Everything went off flawlessly. As promised, DonorCommunity had our auction website up and running well in advance of the Monday kickoff. They also trained our staff to build the online catelog, which was extremly quick and easy. From start to finish, the online auction was extremely successful." said Richard Kelly, Vice President and Chief Operationg Officer of Make-a-Wish of Southern Florida.

"That also means making our website more dynamic. By switching to DonorCommunity's content management platform, FLGMC is saving about $250 per month on website hosting and finding it much." said Todd Wiley, Director of Fort Lauderdale Gay Men's Chorus.

And the winner is... DonorCommunity!

On May 16. 2011, the Miami Herald named DonorCommunity as the winner of its 2011 Business Plan challenge and ran a feature story profiling us in the Business Section! The story, entitled “Giving Nonprofits a Helping Hand," can be viewed online here

The article begins:

Some people may see an economic downturn as a bad time to launch a business. But David Blyer saw a real need and opportunity.

That’s why he launched DonorCommunity, a company offering a Web-based platform that helps nonprofit organizations expand donor bases, increase fund-raising efficiency, generate awareness and reduce costs. Blyer’s plan won first place in the Business Plan Challenge Community Track.

“I think I developed this in the worst of economic times, but the best time to help nonprofits. Nonprofits were losing grants and they realized they needed to do something. They were losing donors or donors were giving less. They needed a way to communicate with them,” Blyer says.
